This time of year everywhere you look there are blogs and checklists about spring cleaning for your home. But as business owners, we rarely see a checklist for how to spring clean our business. No matter what size your business is, from a one person show to a large company, below is an easy-to-follow spring cleaning checklist.
Your brand is not just your visual assets! Is your value/mission/vision statements up-to-date?
- Do you have a clear logo and brand standards, including colors, fonts, and high-resolution logo & imagery files? You never know when these will come in handy, or when you will need them for a digital or print project.
- Who is your audience? Has it changed? Do you understand your audience avatars that you market your business to?
- Does the homepage represent you well and have a clear call to action?
- Is all the Content up-to-date and relevant?
- Did you add services or change the way you serve clients?
- Is your contact information up-to-date? Is it easy to find?
- Do you have up-to-date thought leadership and articles/blogs on your site?
- If you have a newsletter, is there a sign-up? Does that sign-up send you a message or automatically add to your mailing list?
What does your online presence say about your brand? Is it accurate?
- Do you have all your handles on all of the social platforms? Are they the same?
- Are your profiles and profile images/cover images up-to-date?
- Are you posting regularly so that people know you exist?
- Are you posting on the right platforms for your business?
- Have you inventoried your contacts on social? Are you connecting with new clients, new networking prospects, and others who you would like to see your posts?
Have you googled yourself lately? Where do you come up in the search rankings? What comes up when you Google your business?
- Have you checked your Google profile? If you don’t have one, it is important to get one and claim your business.
- Have you looked at any testimonials you have received? If you don’t have many make a list of recent clients who you could ask for a Google review. Send them a quick note “We enjoyed serving you and we are hoping you would be willing to give us a good review.” with a link.
Look through any print materials that you would give to a client, are they up-to-date? Do they fully represent you?
- Do you have digital copies of any materials you need to send clients?
- Do you have print or digital flyers, brochures or presentations that need to be updated or created?
- Do you need updated business cards, letterhead, invoice sheets, other business templates?
Do you have a plan for how to market your business in Q2-Q4? Does it include all the pieces it needs to?
- Have you analyzed your strengths and opportunities in the market? Are you capitalizing on them?
- Have you recognized your weaknesses and threats to your business? Are you minimizing those?
What are your competitors doing that you aren’t? Do you need to be?
- How are they marketing their business? What avenues of advertising are they utilizing?
- How can you rise to meet them/rise above them? Or how can you differentiate your business?
